The 32nd annual “Best of Tampa Bay 2017” event is a great way to enjoy everything Tampa has to offer featuring the best local restaurants, cuisine and even cocktails on one of the best backdrops: the Hillsborough River.

Taking place at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday, April 29, 2017, the “Best of Tampa Bay 2017” will host over fifty restaurants and several breweries from the Tampa Bay area including, but not limited to the following:

All proceeds from this event will benefit the Straz Center’s Arts Education Program, and this event alone has raised over $2 million to support that cause.

The ‘Burger Showdown’ Will Decide Who Has The Best Burger in the Bay!

Are you an aficionado of Burgers and are looking for the ultimate burger experience in Tampa? Then the 2017 Burger Showdown is definitely what you are looking for!

The 6th annual event will take place at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park in Downtown Tampa on Saturday, May 20, 2017 from 5:00pm-7:00pm. The event is FREE to enter but Burger Sampling Tickets are available for purchase.

Restaurants participating in the Burger Showdown will include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Just Grillin
  • Boca Kitchen and Market
  • Eats American Grill
  • Around the World Burgers
  • The Rolling Gourmet
  • The Bacon Boss
  • The Compass Grill

Guests who purchase sampling tickets will be able to sample a burger from each of the participating restaurants and vote their favorite. The Restaurant with the most votes will be named the “Best Burger in Tampa Bay”.

“Early Bird” tickets can be purchased online up until Monday, May 8, 2017. An Early Bird Burger Sampling Ticket is $20.00 (+1.99 Fee) per person and will include a sample from each restaurant as well as a FREE 16-ounce beer as a bonus for buying early. You can also purchase a Pair of Drink Tickets (up until May 19) for $14.00 each and includes a 16-ounce beer and a 6-ounce glass of wine. (Tickets purchased at the event will not include a beverage.)

There will be Culinary Professionals on hand as part of the Judges’ Panel and they will grade the burgers on Originality, Presentation and Taste.

All proceeds from the “Burger Showdown” will benefit the VooDoo Chef Foundation, which is an organization that helps give financial assistance to people who are looking to get a culinary or food service career and also provides meals to those in need.

There will be live entertainment, games and local vendors throughout the night with plenty of fun to have by all.

3rd Annual Tampa Riverfest

The 3rd Annual Tampa Riverfest will be taking place on May 6 and 7, 2017 and will be bigger and better than ever!

With the events spanning from beyond Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, this year’s Riverfest will begin on Saturday, May 6 and will include a Hot Dog Festival which will start with a “Weiner Dog Derby” from 10:00am until 4:00pm with proceeds supporting the Dashaund Rescue, a “Best of the Bay Hot Dog” Contest from 4:00pm until 8:00pm. But, even more exciting at 7:00pm there will be a Men and Women’s Qualifier for the “Nathan’s Famous 4th of July Hot Dog Eating Contest” and later that evening a Hot Air Balloon Glow at 8:30pm, which is always a popular event. (All of these above events will take place at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park.)

Also on Saturday at MacDill Park, there will be a pop-up bar from 11:00am until 5:00pm that will include local food vendors and even art exhibits. There will be live music at the Sail Pavilion and an “Asia Fest” at Cotanchobee Park near the Marriott Waterside Hotel.

The Gasparilla Stand-Up Paddle Board Invasion will take place at Water Works Park and the Kids of Imagination Play Area and Secret Walls Graffiti War Competition will be hosted by the Straz Center.

On Sunday, May 7 there will be just as much live entertainment as well as live music at Ulele and a Pops in the Park Concert. The Pirate Water Taxi will also join in on the fun and be offering one-way rides for just $5 per person.

“Do The Local Motion” Smarts and Arts Tour

This Friday afternoon take an alternative lunch break by participating in “Do The Local Motion” Smarts and Arts Tour, the last of the tours that will take place this season.

The tours provide a free one hour tour from 12:00pm until 1:00pm, about two miles long, meeting at the Lykes Gaslight Square in Downtown Tampa. This week’s tour will be based around the John F. Germany Library located at 900 N. Ashley Drive.

While the tours are free, a $5 donation per person is appreciated as it supports the “Where Love Grows” charity which fights childhood hunger right here in Tampa Bay.

SeaGrapes Fine Wine and Food Festival

The Florida Aquarium’s annual SeaGrapes Fine Wine and Food Festival is scheduled for Friday, May 12, 2017 from 8:00pm until 11:00pm.

If you aren’t familiar with the SeaGrapes event, it is a benefit for the Florida Aquarium to help support education and conservation programs.

Local restaurants and vendors will be in attendance serving delicious cuisine and there will also be hundreds of wine varieties for tasting as well. Those in attendance will be able to walk around the many exhibits the Florida Aquarium offers while being entertained by live entertainment and enjoying food and wine tastings.

General Admission into SeaGrapes is $85 up until May 9 and then $95 until May 12; the price will then be $105 at the event. Aquarium Members are $75 per person. Pier 60’s Sugar Sand Festival

If you are looking for something fun to do this Easter weekend or perhaps even next week then the Pier 60’s Sugar Sand Festival should definitely top the list.

If you have never attended the Sugar Sand Festival, it is definitely a must-see event to view the work of some of the most talented sculptors in the world. The event will run now until April 23, 2017 and will be at Pier 60 on Clearwater Beach.

There will various exhibits set up throughout with the most popular being the Sugar Sand Walk Exhibit that will be open from 10:00am until 10:00pm each day under 20,000 foot tent that allows visitors to view the work of eleven of the best sculptors in the world and their dynamic sand sculptors.

There will be Sand Sculpting Classes on both Saturdays and Sundays from 1:00pm until 1:30pm during the ten day event where visitors will learn how to make their own spectacular sand sculptures.

The Giant Sand Box will also be open and is great for the youngest visitors to the Sugar Sand Festival. Children can play and create their own sand sculptures and castles in one of the biggest sandboxes you’ll ever see!

On Saturday, April 15 and Sunday, April 16 there will be a Speed Sand Demonstration from 5:00pm until 5:30pm. Professionals will compete to see who can create the assigned sculpture in the fastest time!

While most events are FREE the Sugar Sand Walk Exhibit does require admission at $10 each adults, $8 each senior 55 years of age and older (as well as military, teachers, and first responders with valid identification shown upon entrance.) and $6 for students ages 6-17. Children five years of age and younger will enter FREE with the purchase of an adult ticket. All adult and Senior tickets will receive a FREE photo to commemorate the event. 10th Annual Blueberry Festival

The 9th Annual Blueberry Festival is back at Keel and Curly Winery in Plant City  this year and will now take place during two weekends for even more fun and blueberry goodness!

The Blueberry Festival will be open this Friday, April 14 and Saturday, April 15 and then again next weekend Saturday, April 22 and Sunday, April 23, 2017 from 8:00am until 6:00pm each day.

Admission into the event is FREE but some of the activities and events in the festival are an additional cost.

Those who attend can pick their own blueberries from 8:00am until 4:00pm each day and will cost $5.00 per pound. It is suggested to wear a hat and sneakers to make walking through the fields much easier and safer.

There will be hundreds of arts and crafts and food vendors on hand as well as other activities too!

Each day there will be live entertainment on stage for guests to enjoy throughout the event from many local bands. For the younger Blueberry Festival attendees there will be a special Kids’ Area that will have a petty zoo, kiddie rides and even pony rides!

Parking will cost $5 per vehicle from 8:00-10:00am and then $10 per vehicle afterwards.

Tampa Bay Storm Home Opener This Saturday

The Tampa Bay Storm will be hosting their home opener this Saturday, April 15, 2017 at 7:00pm at Amalie Arena.

The 5-Time Arena Bowl Champions earned the 46-40 win in the first game of the season on the road against the Cleveland Gladiators.
