It’s the most wonderful time of the year in Tampa: it’s Gasparilla Season!!!!!
While there are many events that take place in the weeks of the Gasparilla celebration, the first will be this upcoming Saturday with the Children’s Gasparilla Extravaganza.
Dating back to 1947, the Gasparilla Children’s Parade is an opportunity for families to enjoy the events in a family friendly manner and still be a part of all the fun!
The Extravaganza will actually include a day full of events for all ages. First will be the Bike and Pedestrian Safety Rodeo from 11:00am until 1:00pm and then the Gasparilla Preschooler’s Stroll at 1:30pm. The stroll is a half-mile along Bayshore Boulevard starting at Howard Avenue and concluding at Rome. Advance registration online is required to participate in the stroll.
The famous Gasparilla Air Invasion and the first of the SOCUM Jumps will take place in the skies above Bayshore Boulevard from 2:45pm until 3:15pm, so when you are anxiously awaiting the start of the parade be sure to keep your eye on the skies so you won’t miss out!
The Gasparilla Children’s Parade will then promptly begin at 3:30pm starting at Bay to Bay and Bayshore Boulevard and going along Bayshore before concluding at Edison Avenue. The parade will feature the famous Krewes that help make Gasparilla what they are as well as dance troupes, marching bands, schools and other community organizations will all march their way down the parade route as well.
After the conclusion of the parade at about 6:oopm, a second SOCUM jump, this time a night jump, will take place in the sky at about 6:15pm. But, that’s not all!
The day of events is then capped off with the “Piratechnic” Extravaganza firework show will light up the sky over Bayshore Boulevard and should be seen throughout the South Tampa and Downtown Tampa areas. The fireworks will begin at about 7:00pm.
